Rasa Vinyards Veritas Sequitur Syrah 2017
CRITICAL ACCLAIM:
“Displaying a dark ruby core, the 2017 Veritas Sequitur Syrah explodes with impeccable precision and finesse. Aromas of picturesque ripe, dark red fruits rocket from the glass with purity and precision. The wine exudes focus, freshness and a juicy nature, and it overflows with aromas of black raspberry, baked earth, potpourri, red and pink peppercorns, dried flowers and cinnamon spice. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is seductive and pure with succulent acidity and a food-friendly mineral tension that sashays with purity and grace. I can’t stop smelling the glass, and it begs me back for more. It’s a devastatingly gorgeous wine!” - 98 PTS., ANTHONY MUELLER, WINE ADVOCATE (05/2023)
WINERY NOTES:
TASTING: "The 2017 Veritas Sequitur is an utterly breathtaking wine, both aromatically and on the palate—Syrah does not get any better than this! This wine has a dense, dark purple color with a compelling bouquet of blackberry, framboise, olive tapenade, white pepper, Asian spices, garrigue, bacon fat, truffle, stony minerality, and forest floor. It is a medium-plus bodied wine with very high flavor density. The palate defines elegance and finesse, with refined tannins and well delineated notes of black plum, framboise, bacon fat, truffle, aged cigar tobacco, white pepper, garrigue, black olive, Asian spices, dark chocolate, and leather. The very long finish resolves with savory, umami notes of truffle, bacon fat, white pepper, and stony minerality. The wine showcases elegant structure, exquisite balance, and incredible flavor purity. This wine will continue to improve for the next 8-10 years and should drink well for the next 15+ years.
WINEMAKING: “The wine had a pre-fermentation maceration of 135 hours and a post-fermentation maceration of 140 hours. The wine was punched down by hand 3 times each day during macerations and fermentation. 100% whole cluster and 100% native fermentation. All individual wine components, including free run and press fractions, were kept separate until final blending. The wine had an elevage of 30 months in French Oak. The oak profile is 100% new French oak (predominantly from Troncais and Alliers). The wine achieved its sparkly brilliance from 3 judicious rackings, no fining agents were employed. The wine was very lightly filtered to capture any remaining lees.”
